New Mown Hay is an unpretentious, down-home blend of fresh hay notes brightened by a touch of citrus and floral. Did I already say unpretentious? Good, because there's no perfumey, show-offy, big city hijinks in these here bottles. Splendid on its own or to use it to give a "coumarin" (fancy word for hay) note to blends.

Oakmoss is a perfumery classic, prized for both its staying power and the earthy, foresty note it imparts (one Sweet Cakes customer described our Oakmoss as "all the scents of the forest rolled into one"). In the Pacific Northwest, there are the most unbelievable virgin forests, and the fragrance of these forests is just incredible. The fresh mountain air and the green of the moss and the evergreens is punctuated here and there by pure mountain streams that cascade hundreds of feet into ribbon waterfalls and cooling misty pools. This is the feel that this blend creates. "Mountain Stream" also makes a wonderful, calming candle scent.

--A hot afternoon, and a blend that cooled the warm summer day! This blend is unique, and a bit risky, I'll admit. But the end result is a wonderful breath of fresh air.

Having this fragrance duplicated has been a long and bumpy road, filled with overly sweet, not-complex-enough scent samples that were a pale and wan shadow of the beloved original. But at last, we're proud to offer you our interpretation of the original Clairol Herbal Essence, arguably the best-smelling shampoo of all time.

Herbal top notes of spearmint, galbanum, anise, chamomile, eucalytpus, rosemary, and sage frolic playfully with lemon, fir needle, and petitgrain. A floral midsection of rose, freesia, and muguet sits atop a sweet grain base of oakmoss, vanilla, amber, and musk.

Add this powerhouse to soap, shampoo, shower gel, and candles, and get ready to enter a garden of herbal delights.

The nicest-smelling floral you've never heard of! Osmanthus flowers come from a Chinese evergreen, and in China, where they're used to scent tea, are known as Kwei Hwa. The fragrance is floral-fruity -- it's been described as a combination of jasmine with a suggestion of plum and raisins -- and very exotic. Evidently it spans the globe, as osmanthus scents are very popular in Europe and Australia as well. Astringent and fresh, much like freesia.

Whether you want an upscale "high-end" fragrance feel or a more natural, tie-dye and macramé feel, China Tea is a chameleon! And talk about "WOW!" in the bath and shower. We highly recommend China Tea as a scent for our shampoo and shower gel, as it comes alive under the hot water. Candlemakers might want to use only 2 parts of our Osmanthus, due to a change in the blend's balance when burning.

Based on the best-selling Victoria's Secret scent, this is a blend of fresh green pear softened and modernized with cucumber and melon notes. Its freshness makes it perfect for spring and summer.

Often referred to as "Hawaiian jasmine." Like jasmine, pikaki is a sweet, intense, tropical white floral scent. While jasmine is enormously popular among our customers, there are many who find pikaki to be even more appealing, as it's slightly less cloying and sweet.

We've searched for years for a fragrance oil that would do justice to the regal pomegranate, queen of all fruit, and finally we found one that's worthy of the name! Sparkling top notes of pomegranate are enhanced with a touch of bergamot essential oil and nuances of cranberry, apple, and peach. Very upscale, and perfect for the holidays. Note: This fragrance could also substitute for a very extraordinary cranberry.

Amber plus sandalwood equals perfection.

A little history, first: In the 17th century, perfumery was considered a high art, and custom-blended perfumes were developed, decanted, and sold with the greatest of care and attention in luxuriously appointed salons. Modern-day perfumer Jean-Francois LaPorte decided to revive this tradition, and has opened several "salons a parfum" in Paris under the name "Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier." As part of his effort to recapture the essence of the golden era of perfumery, Monsieur LaPorte committed himself to working with only the finest and rarest raw materials. Needless to say, his creations are breathtaking -- and quite pricey (small bottles of eau de toilette are priced at $145).

The work of M. LaPorte has only recently come to our attention here at The SC, and we're delighted to be able to offer you an outstanding duplication of one of his finest blends, Ambre Precieux (which translates to "Precious Amber"). This rich, beguiling unisex fragrance begins with top notes of natural bergamot, galbanum, lemon, petitgrain, and lime, leading to a sweet-spicy middle of amber, vanilla, nutmeg, and clove, with rich bottom notes of ambergris, balsam peru, and sandalwood. BOTTOM LINE: This warm, complex spicy amber-sandalwood-citrus blend is an extraordinarily affordable way to treat yourself to an outstanding example of the perfumer's art.

Note: This fragrance discolors cold-process soap (and possibly other toiletries as well) to a warm amber color.

A close match to Clairol's "Herbal Essences" shampoo scent. Purely Herbal starts with top notes of grapefruit, lime, and bergamot. Other components include peach, green apple, and black currant. A floral heart of ylang, muguet, heather, and jasmine dries down to a warm,woody base of sandalwood and oakmoss. BOTTOM LINE: Despite all the fruit and floral notes, this fragrance is completely unisex, and in fact, men seem to universally love it. (2018 MOD).
