Fragrance Oils: D thru H

At last! A re-creation of this designer floral powerhouse worthy of its name!

Top notes of peach, bluebell, tart green Granny Smith apple, lemon, and jasmine lead to a fresh, fruity-floral heart of bamboo, white rose, guava, and pineapple, atop a sweet, woody base of musk, amber, cedar, and sandalwood. The overall effect is that of a strong, fresh floral that's decidedly upscale and definitely irresistible.

There's nothing worse than a poor imitation of this designer men's scent, but fear not, for this one is right on the money. Drakkar is composed of lavender, spices, and woods. Top notes of citrus lead to middle notes of herbaceous lavender, coriander, and juniper berries. Sandalwood, patchouli, and fir balsam form the warm, sexy base.

First there was World's Best Magnolia -- and now we're pleased as punch to offer you the finest Egyptian musk this side of Khartoum!

A little backstory: A perfumer we work with recently relocated to the US from France. While still living in Paris, he purchased a small bottle of musk fragrance, which immediately became his wife's signature scent and which people within sniffing range remarked upon endlessly. Now that he's here in the US and unable to purchase more of this incredible musk, he decided to duplicate it. I will readily admit to not being a musk addict myself, but when the sample of this fragrance landed on the warehouse doorstep, I was blown away! It's simply the muskiest, sexiest, most beguiling musk blend I've ever come across (and we're talking thousands of fragrance samples over the past 9+ years)! In fact, I would put this in a league with the best of the Sweet Cakes best -- our copies of Angel and Fracas and Precious Amber, for example.

You must try World's Best Egyptian Musk! Who'll like it? Anyone who likes musky fragrances, sexy fragrances, unique fragrances, or upscale-smelling fragrances. Who won't be impressed by it? Only someone whose nostrils were stitched together in a freak serger accident. And here's one more piece of juicy backstory -- another customer of this particular perfumer has also purchased this Egyptian Musk and is selling it diluted as a perfume with a price tag of $100 per ounce. Diluted, people. Per ounce. Or, as expressed in the title of a song by West Coast rap-music impresario Ice Cube, "$100 Dollar Bill, Yo."

Note to CP soapers: I've personally tested this fragrance well and thoroughly in CP soap, and my feelings about using it in CP are mixed . . . while it doesn't mutate or cause any trouble, the scent does fade more than Sweet Cakes fragrances do. At the end of cure time, the pleasant musk and sandalwood notes were still there, but a bit muted. If you don't mind a more subtle fragrance level in your cold-process soap, then feel free to give Egyptian Musk a spin.

A welcome addition to the world of tropical scents! Rich, true coconut is adorned with a lei of jasmine and a gentle kiss of sandalwood and vanilla. BOTTOM LINE: The floral, woody, and sweet notes add to and support the coconut scent without being overwhelming or distracting. Not a plain jane coconut!

Note: This fragrance has been tested successfully in cold-process soap, although it will discolor the soap to a medium tan during the curing process.

A figgy, leafy fragrance that's like fall in a bottle. Green fig notes combine with Italian and Brazilian orange in the top, leading to a floral middle with notes of deep violet. A foresty finish is provided by bois de rose, musk, and oakmoss. Very complex and rich.

This smells just like a freshly mown lawn on a summer day. Wonderful! No synthetic note whatsoever.

TIP: When making soap with this fragrance, throw a handful of fresh, clean, cut-up grass into the batch -- very interesting looking!

Lovers of boutique fragrances -- try our irresistible re-creation of this best-selling fragrance by FRESH!

A truly fresh take on jasmine -- bright and floral without being overly heavy or cloying, as some jasmine-centered fragrances are. The blend begins with floral-citrus notes of sweet red orange, freesia, and jasmine atop a mid-section of lilac, magnolia, peony, peach skin, and tiare flower. A soft, dreamy, lingering drydown is provided by notes of precious woods and marshmallow. BOTTOM LINE: Even if you've never had a chance to smell this in person, consider giving it a try in your soaps, candles, bath gel, etc. -- it's a favorite with the discerning perfumistas who write reviews on-line. "Fresh" is one of the top-selling boutique brands -- here's our interpretation of their delicious "Sugar Blossom"!

Our version of Fresh "Sugar Blossom" is a sheer, flirtatious blend that begins with clean citrusy top notes of bergamot, grapefruit, and essential oils of lemon and lime. Floral mid-notes of white orchid, freesia, jasmine, passionfruit, and lily of the valley lead to a sweet, soft drydown of vanilla, caramel, and amber.

This vibrant, alluring blend is an inviting combination of clean white floral blossoms and sparkling citrus notes, softened and sweetened with sugary notes of caramel and vanilla.

A stong, true gardenia that holds up wonderfully in soap, candles, and toiletries. One of our best-sellers, year in and year out.

Here's a lovely soft-floral blend to try:

Moonlight Sonata
4 parts Sweet Cakes Orange Blossom Fragrance
1 part Sweet Cakes Gardenia Fragrance
2 parts Sweet Cakes Hyacinth Fragrance
2 parts Sweet Cakes Lily of the Valley Fragrance
1/2 part Sweet Cakes Lavender Breeze Fragrance
2 parts Sweet Cakes Osmanthus Fragrance

This blend is based on descriptions we unearthed of a special fragrance given to passengers sailing on the "A" deck of the Titanic. While this blend is more complicated than most of our other blends, it's well worth the effort!

Warm notes of ginger are enhanced by lemon, black currant, and nutmeg, leading to a floral jasmine-led middle, with a sweet, smooth drydown of white musk and amber. Fortified and plussed-out and ready to enhance any product, including cold-process soap.

Terrific on its own, as well as a world-class blender!

This fragrance is way, way more than the sum of its parts. Grapefruity? Yes. Gingery? Yes. But in addition, there's a musky, woody drydown that's absolutely to die for, and that lives on long after the grapefruit and ginger are but fond memories. This blend begins with sparkling green notes coupled with tart pink grapefruit, leading to a middle of ginger, rose, plum, lily, and lavender. The unusual bottom complex of white musk and fruitwood rounds the fragrance out beautifully and has amazing staying power.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give this fragrance a 27! Sophisticated and upscale, yet totally likable and most definitely addictive -- I would put this fragrance up against anything even the priciest boutique brands have to offer -- yes, it's that good. Don't judge this one out of the bottle, though -- it really comes alive when you put it to use. Our Grapefruit Ginger fragrance is lovely in shampoo, shower gel, and M&P soap; pretty good in CP soap; and mind-blowingly fantastic in stay-on-the-skin applications like lotion, body butter, and perfume (haven't tried it in candles, yet, but it's most definitely compatible with wax).

Fresher than a spring breeze blowing across a mountain meadow high in the Colorado Rockies! I decided this is a must-have fragrance after a recent foray to the mall, and was thrilled that the perfumers were able to come up with such a knock-out duplication. This blend begins with fresh-floral, bright citrus, and leafy green top notes, leading to a heart of water lily, jasmine, and eucalytpus. The fragrance ends with bottom notes of musk and soft woods. Lovers of fresh scents like Irish Spring, Tide, and Cool Citrus Basil, rejoice -- you have found your new king!

NOTE: The tiny test bar of CP soap I made with Green Clover & Aloe has been filling my home office with the most wonderful waves of fresh, clean, green, refreshing scent -- a far cry from the room's usual aroma of open Dorito's bags and sleeping dogs. Powerful, and powerfully good! Doesn't discolor CP soap, either -- excellent!

Our first-ever duplication of a fragrance from the venerable (and extremely pricey) House of Creed. This fine men's fragrance begins with a sprig of Dublin ivy, joined with green notes of verbena and violet leaves. Woody, balsamic Mysore cardamom creates a sweet-spicy middle, winding down to a well-defined, smooth bottom of sandalwood and amber. Bottom line: A truly accurate re-creation of the VERY upscale, very green real thing, and guaranteed to turn any man into a bare-chested Riverdance-type hottie (and by "guaranteed," I of course mean "vaguely implied," my lawyer tells me).

A scent that smells like a meadowful of wildflowers -- green and fresh. Often used to scent authentic Irish soaps.

Here's the backstory: Whilst shopping at a fancy-schmancy department store, several Hermes samples were very kindly included with my purchase. Upon returning home and going through the bag, what to my wondering nostrils did appear but the most intriguing, the most beguiling, the most likable scent that I had stumbled upon in years and years? I tore through the samples, unstoppering each to see which was responsible for the aroma that had me swooning. It was Eau des Merveilles, and I think our re-creation is every bit as good as the real thing.

Eau des Merveilles is unusual in that the perfumers who created it purposely built it upside-down, so that bottom notes would be the top notes. Thus the fragrance opens with woody notes of vetiver, oak, and cedar, which quickly lead to a sweet, sultry middle of ambergris, with lemon, orange, elemi, and pink pepper in the finish. The lack of floral notes in the blend -- while being interesting, and unusual -- also makes the scent unisex for those who have a metrosexual bent.

Why the Hermes original version of this scent isn't on every neck and wrist in the free world is beyond me -- yes, it's that good. Our re-creation isn't cheap (although it's much cheaper than the "real thing"), but it's well worth the price -- if you can even put a price on transporting yourself to a nirvana of gorgeous, mind-bending scent!

Summer in a bottle! This hothouse flower is captured beautifully in a blend that begins with fruity top notes of apple, black currant, lime, and bergamot, leading to a heady floral middle of jasmine and rose, with a warm, sexy drydown of white musk, amber, and sandalwood. Strong and true, even after curing in cold-process soap!

Hibiscus is one of my new favorite florals; here's a fresh, clean blend we created using it:

Day at the Spa
1 part Sweet Cakes Sapmoss (type) Fragrance
1 part Sweet Cakes Hibiscus Fragrance

Ooh la la, a day at the spa! This blend takes an already great fragrance (Sapmoss) and kicks it up a notch! "A Day at the Spa" is actually quite unisex, and is so delicious in our shampoo and shower gel that it could give the 'organic experience' a run for its money!

Strong and stable, which is a rarity among honey fragrances. Great on its own, but eminently suited to blending -- try mixing it with other fragrances we offer to produce Honey Vanilla, Honey and Lemon, Honey and Orange Blossom, etc. BOTTOM LINE: Most honey fragrances simply vanish in soap, but this one's been fortified and is quite tenacious.

Our best-selling honeysuckle!

A fresh, likable blend that begins with sweet honeysuckle petals and crisp green grass. Jasmine, musk, sweet mandarin, green rose, and earthy leaf notes complete the fragrance. BOTTOM LINE: Despite all the other notes listed above, many of our Southern customers tell us that this smells exactly like wild honeysuckle flowers to them. ADDITIONAL NOTE: A big snootful of Honeysuckle Hollow wafted past me in the warehouse the other day, and I was struck anew by its excellence -- it's the perfect combination of sweet, floral honeysuckle and a dizzying array of complementary notes. Highly recommended!
